Unlike most frogs , it is active during the day , and is often seen basking in the sun. Once Common, it is now thought to be declining for reasons which are not fully understood. Facts about the “Southern Bell Frog”
- Females can be twice the size of males (males 55- 65mm, females 60-104mm.
- Their staple diet is live insects but they also eat smaller frogs.
- The males call is a repeated growl of about five seconds, "crark -crawwark-crok-crok- crok"
- They lay tiny black eggs, but their tadpoles grow very big ( up to 100mm)
