Families connected to the internet will be able to print out a special safety poster in relation to "Swimming between the Flags" and have children colour it in. Swim between the Flags is the message from Freddo Frog through the Look Before You Leap Child Accident Prevention Program on the internet with Kidsafe. Children and parents visiting Freddo's pond at www.greenweb.com.au will also be able to print out a colouring poster to be a constant reminder of the important message on the fridge door. Freddo surfing the web on his surf board is featured in the poster with the important message between two flags which are blowing in the wind. Mr Ron Smith, creator of the site said, "drownings at beaches in Australia is a reminder of the importance of swimming between the flags and can be a matter of life or death." Getting on the computer and surfing along to Freddo's Pond is a good way to entertain and educate children over this important safety issue, Mr Smith said. Freddo's internet site at www.greenweb.com.au is designed for parents and children to visit together to learn about safety and environmental issues. The Look Before You Leap program has been designed to create a community awareness of safety issues related to child accident prevention. Summer can be a dangerous time for children and adults when they visit new areas on holidays and experience new environments where dangers can be overlooked in a holiday atmosphere. The need to supervise children near and in any form of water is essential for their safety. Unfortunately, children under school age cannot be relied on to save themselves when they are in water and something out of the ordinary happens, he said. Tragic drownings highlight the need of very close supervision of children in the surf, and of only allowing them to swim and play between the flags. The message of Swim between the Flags is extremely important in the safe use of the beach for both children and adults, he said.
