Water Lily Beer Down Under
By Garry Gumnut
You can tell a lot about people and their garden sheds and their fishponds.
Just take the case of Dick who liked to have the occasional beer, but his wife would not allow a Carlton or Vic Bitter anywhere near the family fridge.
But this did not deter Dick who was very inventive and was always spending time in the garden cultivating a lovely fishpond of water lillies.
His wife would often show it off to friends as her pride and joy.
Dick was so keen he would invite special friends over to see the pond even under lights whilst his wife entertained inside the house.
Rolling up one sleeve and with the smooth well-trained action of reaching into the pond out would come the cool bottle of Victoria Bitter from under the lily pad, the glasses and opener would appear as if by magic from a spot carefully concealed behind a fern. In summer Dick always seemed to have people from the Water Lily Club around for meetings. |
