1999 International Year of Older Persons The Garden of Life Project Launched
The Garden of Life Project was officially launched by the Hon. Rob Knowles, Minister for Health and Minister for Aged Care on 6 November 1998 with the Horticultural Therapy Association of Victoria at the Kevin Heinze Garden Centre in the City of Manningham.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister urged the community to maximise the opportunities Australia's most favourite pastime, gardening, offered to improve the quality of life for older persons and create a greater recognition of the benefits of Horticultural Therapy.
Attending the launch were members of the Kevin Heinze Garden Centre including President Tony Kershaw, Delys Sargeant Chairman Australian Coalition '99, the Hon. Bill Forwood MLC, Member for Templestowe, and Margaret Armstrong, Executive Officer of the Horticultural Therapy Association of Victoria.
The Skills.net Roadshow attended and provided access to the web site as part of the launch, which was covered on the Channel 9 and Channel 2 Evening News, ABC Radio Breakfast Program and several local newspapers. |
