Dear Parent
1999 is the International Year of Older Persons and as part of the School´s recognition of the importance of involving grandparents or special friends of students in school activities we are taking part in a unique project ‘The Garden of Life'.
The Garden of Life is a special project by The Green Webb Pty. Ltd., a partner of Australian Coalition '99, a consortium of non government organisations working towards the 1999 United Nations International Year of Older Persons. The theme for the year is towards a society for all ages.
The program aims to provide grandparents and special friends with a personal experience related to the Internet by having a special story about their gardening experiences or a story by their grandchildren about their grandparents garden posted on web and also printed out so they may have a copy.
The program will archive the stories so they may be visited and form a special record of gardener´s achievements in the 1999 International Year of Older Persons.
The Garden of Life project is also designed to assist children to understand the process of aging, the importance older persons place on gardening and encourages children to become involved in gardening as an activity.
The School is holding a special occasion for parents and grandparents and special friends to visit the School and view their personal gardening stories on the web and to receive a print out of their own Garden of Life reflections.
We would ask that you discuss this project with your child, grandparents or special friend to assist in creating some text of around one hundred and fifty words so the personal story can be posted on the site prior to the day. Remember to find out favourite plants, colours and what grandparents really like about their garden. Make sure your child has jotted down some reminders for their story.
We look forward to see everyone involved in The Garden of Life Project on
