In my own garden, my favourite spot is sitting on the terrace overlooking my tropical rainforest of banana trees, cabbage tree palms and tree ferns, highlighted with colour from impatiens and all set against the backdrop of the sparkling water and boats of the Pittwater.
The time of year I enjoy most in the garden is Spring when the garden is in bloom with flowering vines and ground cover.
My favourite flowers include roses, roses and roses.
The Garden of Life program by The Green Webb Pty. Ltd aims to communicate the importance of gardening and how older Australians and their families can improve their quality of life through gardening. This is a timely project in the lead up to the Australian Coalition '99 program for the International year of Older Persons.
The Internet offers all individuals and older Australians in particular a new way of staying in touch, learning new things and sharing information.
New technology allows us to break down barriers of distance which will have an important focus in the International Year of Older Persons next year.
As Minister for Aged Care and someone who enjoys my garden, I encourage people to share their gardening experience and the enjoyment that flows from it.
