The Garden of Life

smliyoptransOne of the most common trends for people who have retired is that they spend more time in their gardens.  This has become an increasingly important trend in relation to both social and health aspects with widespread corporate downsizing and early retirement.

But as we grow older often we are faced with changing our approach to gardening as is detailed by Cara Rosehope in her  book  The Forever Garden.

The Garden of  Life project is aimed at providing older gardeners and  their children with ideas and concepts  to improve the quality of  life and enjoyment of gardening for older gardeners.  It is also aimed at providing a meeting place for discussion and awareness of the issues facing older gardeners.

We will also look at the implications of the Australian  Government's policy to keep people in their own  home with assistance and the management of the garden which becomes an issue.

Retirement Villages play a major part in offering a range of  housing options for older Australians, many of them encourage community gardening as part of  their activities and also the development of  private gardens.

As a starting point read the first chapter of  Cara Rosehope's  The Forever Garden  and join us on the Green Web Discussion Page with your comments.
