The Royal Childrens Hospital is a world recognised centre of excellence in paediatric health care. It specialises exclusively in the diagnosis, treatment and care of all disease, disorders and illness peculiar to childhood and adolescence. It incorporates the Royal Children’s Research Institute and the Murdoch Institute for Research into Birth Defects. Every year, 30,000 children are admitted. They may receive treatment in one of the key specialist areas, such as heart surgery, cancer treatment, plastic surgery, diabetics, renal services or brain surgery. The Hospital offers a full range of allied health services and provides care for 330,000 outpatients annually. The Royal Children’s Hospital is the largest paediatric hospital in the Southern Hemisphere and is a major teaching hospital associated with the Facility of Medicine at the University of Melbourne.
