Victorian Schools' Garden Awards 1999
Aim of the Awards: To encourage and assist students and their school communities in Government and non Government schools throughout Victoria to actively participate in developing and improving their school grounds and gardens.
This year will be the twenty second year of the Awards and has actively involved some two million children over this period. Last year 350 schools entered the Awards and received awards to the value of $22,000.
Judging throughout Victoria was carried out by volunteers from Victorian Garden Clubs who reduced the list to 36 Regional winners over four categories.
The final 36 schools were judged by well known gardening personalities led by Kevin Heinze. The arrival of the judging team by helicopter creates enormous excitement amongst students and visitors.
This year the Committee of the Schools' Garden Awards will provide a free garden advisory service to schools that enter the Awards.
The Schools' Garden Awards provides schools with extensive and positive publicity in both the print and electronic media through the initial judging period and later through the arrival of the State Judging team by helicopter.
The presentation of all awards and the announcement of the State winners will be made by, Mr Phil Gude, MP, Minister for Education in the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens on Friday 3 December 1999.
This gala presentation will involve some 2000 students representing schools across Victoria. |
